Overview

Ekodada is a woman-led social enterprise and impact venture of Chelaba Women Community-Based Organization, headquartered in Baringo, Rift Valley, Kenya. We develop and commercialize Prosopis juliflora products. Ekodada values the region’s natural and cultural heritage, including the diverse communities. 

Committed to innovation and sustainability, Ekodada serves as a model for profitable enterprises aligned with eco-conscious principles.

Approach: 

We blend indigenous and applied scientific solutions through business frameworks to tackle local economic and socio-ecological issues.

OUR PRODUCTS:

Biochar :
*Acts as a soil improver, boosting crop yields and reducing water usage.
* Affordable compared to traditional fertilizers, making it accessible to smallholder farmers.
* Sustainable approach, with each ton of biochar capturing 3 tons of carbon, contributing to climate change mitigation.
Biochar Briquettes:
* Provides a sustainable and efficient alternative to traditional fuelwood.

* Contributes to reduced deforestation, energy efficiency, and lower emissions.
* Utilizes waste material effectively , promoting environmental sustainability.
* Enhances community empowerment through local production and utilization.
*Offers consistent quality , versatility , and versatility in applications .

Overall Objectives:

To mitigate the impacts of Prosopis invasion in affected communities through effective control and management strategies , while harnessing its invasiveness for green energy production and carbon sequestration.
Goals:
1. To raise awareness about the Prosopis invasion and its management.
2. To utilize Prosopis biomass for green energy production and carbon sequestration.
3. To curb the proliferation of Prosopis juliflora.
4. To contribute to heritage management.
5. To diversify community livelihoods.

10. To establish a transparent supply chain for Prosopis Juliflora products.
11. To avoid illegal cutting of indigenous tree species

Specific Objectives:

1. Increase Community understanding of the Prosopis invasion and its implications. 2. Create community empowerment hub in partnership with Chelaba Women CBO. 3.Restore landscapes reclaimed from Prosopis Juliflora. 4. Raise awareness about the importance of preserving native tree species and the adverse effects of illegal exploitation 5. Facilitate collaborative resource management to reduce conflicts 6. Develop methods for converting Prosopis biomass into briquettes and biochar. Activities: 1.Production of Prosopis juliflora biochar and briquettes. 2.Establishment of a transparent supply chain. 3.Destruction of seed viability and prevention of new Prosopis juliflora establishments. 4. Establishment of a seed center/ demo plot.
