In loving memory of our Beloved bull RIAMAKUINE.
We write to you with heavy hearts, mourning the loss of our beloved cattle to the invasive and destructive nature of Prosopis juliflora. Initially brought to our lands with promises of combating desertification and addressing fuelwood shortages, Prosopis has now become a relentless menace, with no sustainable solutions in sight.
Prosopis is wreaking havoc on our livestock production. Its aggressive growth rate leads to the formation of dense thickets that out-compete our native vegetation, displacing our precious grasslands. The sugary pods of Prosopis render our livestock toothless, depriving them of sustenance. Moreover, the thorns of Prosopis injures our livestock, causing grievous harm and disability.
With the loss of our cattle, our livelihoods are shattered. The absence of traditional milk, such as Mursik, not only affects our cultural practices but also impacts our ability to excel in athletics, as our athletes rely on the nutritional benefits of this milk. Furthermore, the financial strain caused by the loss of our livestock leaves our children without school fees, depriving them of education and opportunity
